This was our third New Year ski trip at Gartenhotel, and we’ve enjoyed the ¾ board each time. Breakfast, the afternoon snack and dinner have all been delicious. Last night’s NYE Gala Dinner deserves a special mention, from the champagne and excellent appetizer buffet to the main course and desserts, then the NYE party. The chef, dining room team and bar staff were especially lovely throughout our stay. The reception staff could be friendlier.

The staff were lovely during the four days I stayed, and the people working here are great. The hotel feels a bit strange, though, like it’s aiming for luxury but doesn’t quite get there. I’m also not keen on people being naked in the spa, but that’s just my personal preference.

The NY's package was really good value, and having the ski lift and rental just a few meters away was so convenient. The SPA and meals were great too. One thing felt awkward for New Year’s Eve: they arranged a pre-dinner glass at 6pm, which seemed early if you wanted to enjoy the SPA, but there wasn’t a countdown before midnight. We did enjoy the music afterwards, with fireworks and a mix of old and fun tunes.

The spa was lovely, with several kinds of saunas and pools plus relaxing areas. The staff were so nice, and the kitchen was wonderfully supportive and flexible, making a menu for my partner around his allergies. We’ll definitely visit again.

The spa closing at 8pm was another odd choice. If you’re traveling with kids, the time you can comfortably use it may be limited, and I’ve stayed at hotels where the spa stayed open until 10pm without any apparent drop in quality. The food was good, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating, even with our sometimes loud child. This could have been an easy 4+ star stay, but the beds ruined it. The mattresses were rock hard yet unstable, shifting beneath you, and my wife and I both had that experience. I’d never had back pain before sleeping here, and I expect it to last for days. The pillows were barely filled and sank through when we laid our heads down. Management, try a night in room 404 if you doubt it. All the good parts didn’t matter when we were left with back pain after a night at a RELAXING SPA HOTEL.
