smartFLATS

We spent nine days in Dorfgastein at the end of September and beginning of October, staying in apartment E2 in the SmartFLATS building, which is part of the "Egger-Wirt" building. The map shows the location incorrectly. The village location is excellent, central, and easy to reach. The gondola station was a five-minute walk away, as was the only supermarket. There are two or three restaurants in the village. We had half-board and only needed to eat out once because a restaurant was closed for its day off. The dinners at Egger-Wirt were a highlight, with charming service and delicious food. For two people, E2 was more than spacious, very clean, and well equipped. The kitchen had everything needed for self-catering, though we only used the refrigerator and some dishes. The toilet being in a separate room was nice. A few more bathroom hooks and some extra storage would be useful. There are also a few too few closets, which could be a problem in winter when you tend to bring more things. The room was quiet, though we don’t know whether the rooms next door or above us were occupied. There’s a bowling alley at the hotel that we didn’t use. We looked at the sauna at the smartHotel, and it looked very nice, but we didn’t try it. The pandemic rules and measures seemed appropriate, and the staff put them into practice in a friendly, helpful way. We felt safe throughout our stay. At reception, Christoph gave us excellent advice and lots of information about the area. His competence and friendliness, along with those of the whole team, deserve special mention. Breakfast was good, considering the circumstances, though you couldn’t expect miracles. We’ve had more varied breakfasts, but also more meager ones. Dinner was served at the Egger Wirt restaurant, just down a flight of stairs, which made it especially convenient for us. Dani served us every day. She was incredibly friendly and refreshingly charming, and we always felt well looked after. The food was delicious, and we could choose anything from the menu. We often couldn’t finish dessert. The venison goulash with red cabbage on our last evening is highly recommended. I couldn’t identify the special spice in the red cabbage, but that wasn’t a big deal. One more thing we really enjoyed, though it isn’t connected to the hotel: the butcher around the corner has a drinking water fountain where you can fill up with wonderfully tasty water for the day.
