There was nobody around when we arrived, and eventually we had to go to another hotel to check in. The woman who helped us was grumpy and said we had to be quiet because she lived downstairs. After the first evening, she came into our room without knocking to tell us the same thing. Two days later, we got home in the evening and, after about five minutes, she walked in again with her boyfriend, still without knocking. She aggressively told us she wanted to sleep and we had to be quiet. It was only 8:30 PM, and we were among the first guests back at the hotel. She even had a baton in her hand. The whole situation was bizarre. It felt like the hotel had been taken over by a slumlord and was being run by two terrible people.

The kitchen was so badly laid out that a plaster wall had been put up against the corner, blocking the cupboards. Even frying an egg was impossible. The shower was no better: after our long drive, the water was freezing and wouldn’t warm up. At first glance the place looked promising, but over the week it proved to be an awful cabin. We had to check in elsewhere. A grumpy woman there started shouting about the deposit before we could even say hello. Staff then escorted us out of the hotel as we headed to our room. Later, that same woman came in without warning to tell us to keep the noise down, and we did. Another day, we were back before 9 p.m. when the door suddenly opened. She came in with a man who seemed dazed; he pushed us aside, used all sorts of slang, and waved a baton around. After checkout, the woman inspected the apartment and returned our deposit. Everything was neat and tidy, but on the way home we got a call claiming something was broken, followed by a hefty invoice full of nonsense. She said the TV was full of water, even though there wasn’t a TV. It seems they’re after money. This was our first and last stay.

The village cable car is only a two-minute walk away, and we’d gladly stay here again. Our apartment had a huge balcony that went almost all the way around, with views in nearly every direction. The new bathrooms were compact but very nice, the beds were comfortable, and we slept well. The kitchen had what we needed, and bringing our dog was a real bonus.

We’ve been spending summers at the Hubertushof for years, and the Egger family even arranged a shuttle last year when we travelled by train. The apartments are spacious, nicely decorated and very clean. We enjoy the regional food: a good breakfast and a delicious local three-course dinner. The surroundings are beautiful and the service is excellent. Highly recommended, and thanks to the Egger family!

The rooms were clean and tidy, and we had a huge balcony. The location is great too: about three minutes to the ski lift, Spar just around the corner, and five minutes to après-ski. The staff, though, were so unfriendly that it overshadowed all of that. Nobody was there to check us in. We tried the phone numbers from our booking but got no answer. After we rang the bell several times, a woman who had already seen us finally came over. She was grumpy, and we had to call through Booking.com. I told her we’d tried and couldn’t get through, but after a lot of sighing she called herself, also with no answer. She said she’d take our number and call once she reached the host. We’d just walked into the village, about five minutes away, when the host called and said she was waiting and we had to come back immediately. Another unfriendly woman gave us four keys, checked us in, and quickly showed us the room. We’d paid everything except the tourist tax. I wanted to pay cash, but the woman couldn’t give change. We were told we could pay at checkout or the day before. We also ordered breakfast rolls. At 8 a.m. we asked when they’d be ready and were told grumpily that she hadn’t got to them. Back in our room, I heard something at the front door: the rolls had been left there without even a knock. There were no rolls the next day either, so I cancelled. Spar is close by, half the price, and the staff there are really friendly. At checkout, I spoke to the grumpy woman in German, and she snapped, “English please.” I said we wanted to check out and pay what we owed. She couldn’t handle it and said we had to go to another hotel. We’d had enough. I said she could come here for payment or we’d go back to the Netherlands and send a bill, and that they should have explained things better. Then the second grumpy woman showed up, upset because she’d emailed us the day before and we’d missed our appointment. I apologized and said I hadn’t seen the email. We’d spent the day skiing, then gone to après-ski, eaten and slept. We paid and left with screeching tires. These women need lessons in hospitality and communication. Gerlos is great, but they’re a poor advertisement for it.
