Jufa Hotel Hochkar-sport Resort

In the afternoons there’s lots to do, from the sauna and ping pong to bowling and football. It’s my favorite hotel on Hochkar, with a good balance of price and location. For one adult and three children, 250 EUR a night including breakfast is really nice. The staff are mainly from Hungary and speak German and English well. I really recommend it.

The location was nice, though the hotel itself was average. The food wasn’t very good, our room wasn’t cleaned every day, and the sauna was out of order for four of our seven days.

Breakfast was really good, and the prices seem reasonable for the location. There aren’t many hotels above 1,400 m with rooms for five, and this one has plenty of sports options: hiking, soccer, tennis, basketball, plus indoor courts in a large hall. There’s also a great indoor playground for kids.

We chose the hotel for its beautiful location and its family-hotel image, but our week was badly affected by three schools staying there with teenagers who partied late into the night. We could hardly sleep, including our toddler, who got sick after not getting enough proper rest. We were told to eat dinner at 18:00 with the large groups, since otherwise they might eat everything and the hotel couldn’t guarantee our half board if we came after, say, 19:00. We were also made to sit at the worst table because the ones with a view were reserved for the schools. When we asked on the website if anything could be done to improve our stay, the reply was a rude no. We felt cheated, and our holiday was ruined. A community manager might post something nice here or even say it was our fault, but that wouldn’t change what happened. Families may want to look at other options.
