We paid when we booked, but when we got there everything was shut. Nobody picked up the phone or replied to our emails. Really disappointing.

The Schilcher wine was lovely, and the sour platter is well worth trying. Prices felt reasonable too. We also had a very nice room, and the hosts were warm and attentive, clearly caring about their guests. The location is superb, and everything felt just right.

Even with a reservation, our group of 13 waited more than an hour for food, though the restaurant wasn't full. My sour beef salad was a small serving, with very dry meat and little flavor. The drinks were off as well, many much too sweet or sour, and practically undrinkable without extra mineral water. We were all still hungry afterward, so we drove on to the Krainerhof, where the snack was much better and considerably more filling.

We went for the Formula 1 race in summer and loved our stay. It was so peaceful, and the balcony room had a stunning view. Breakfast was superb, with bread you could take along, and the service was excellent. Everyone made the place feel welcoming and friendly. We'd happily come back.
