Best Western Parkhotel Hagenberg

Our car broke down and had to be towed to a garage about 30 minutes after we booked, so carrying on with the trip wasn’t possible. I contacted the property right away to explain and ask to cancel. There was still time for them to book the room to someone else, but the policy said we’d still be charged in full. They told me not to cancel through Booking.com, so I sent a free cancellation request instead. When I followed up the next day, the answer was an almost instant, flat “no,” with no real consideration or empathy. It felt as if they’d decided before I’d finished explaining. I can’t help wondering whether the room was rebooked and they were paid twice, though I don’t know if that happened. Whatever the case, the lack of understanding and customer service was disappointing, especially since the breakdown was completely out of our control. I wouldn’t recommend the place based on this experience.

The rooms are comfortable and spacious, and the hotel has a nice modern design.

Our room was for wheelchair users, with plenty of space. The hotel looks very new and modern, and the big window into the bathroom is one of those features you get in some places. Parking in the garage is free, and there seems to be EV charging. The restaurant kitchen is open daily until 20:00. There appears to be just one lift, so expect to wait a few seconds. The bigger issue was the temperature: the hotel seems to lack normal AC, and the room stayed at 24c all night even though we tried setting it to 19c. That felt a bit too warm under the blankets.

The location is nice and so is the hotel, and breakfast was great. But there was a corporate event, and the restaurant closed because of it. The party went on past midnight, with a terrace and some kind of speaker right under my window, so I heard everything and got no quiet sleep or food. The hotel should have told guests when confirming the reservation, while they still had a chance to change their plans. Waiting until someone has arrived and can’t change their decision feels like a scam. No one even apologized. At checkout they didn’t ask how the stay was, probably because they knew what guests outside the company event would say. Very unprofessional. I don’t blame the people in the event group, the hotel should have managed this properly.
