Hotel Spitzerberg by b_smart Hundsheim

I picked up the jacket I’d forgotten today, and they explained what had happened. I understand much better now why it took so long, and they were a great help. I’d posted an earlier review about the jacket, but I removed it because my view of the hotel has changed. Thank you to the manager for handling this so well.

Kati and Gábor are the real stars here. The staff were amazing, and we fell in love with the natural pool. The area is quiet and well kept, and our basic room, which was what we chose, was clean and comfortable. The beds felt a bit soft to us, just a matter of personal preference. The self check-in was brilliant and easy to use. We came hoping to recharge and got what we wanted, and then some. We’ll definitely go back one day.

The hotel has a lovely swimming pool, tennis courts and a fitness room. It’s family-run, and everyone was friendly. Our room was spotless, spacious and nicely styled. There are apartments as well, and the hotel has been newly renovated.

The restaurant is the real highlight. ICARUS is run by Katrina and Gabriel Mehes, and it’s worth the drive just to eat there. The food feels gourmet, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The service is so warm that you feel like family. Katarina went far beyond what we expected when she helped me and my business partner get to Vienna for the next part of our trip. She drove us to the train station, read the signs for us because they weren’t in English, bought our tickets, then asked an elderly man waiting for the train to look after us, make sure we got off at the right stop and help us reach our next hotel. She wouldn’t take repayment for the tickets. That kind of kindness, and meeting people and experiencing different cultures and languages, is what travel is about. Katarina, thank you with all our love for making our stay so memorable. You’re wonderful. The hotel itself seems focused less on personal service and more on keeping unnecessary costs down while still offering a quality stay, good food, a nice room, a safe environment and pleasant amenities.
