Hotel Tia Monte

This is a basic, no-frills hotel with little charm and lots of large groups. The rooms are simple but okay. By 8am there was no warm water left in the room shower, probably because all the groups had showered shortly beforehand. We had half-board, but both dinner and breakfast were very basic, the kind of food served to large groups. The sauna itself was pretty good, though it's only on for three hours a day, and the surrounding area was cold and unheated. The showers there were impossible to use, either boiling hot or much too cold.

The scenery around here is breathtaking, and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We had good breakfasts and dinners, with something different each evening. Tia Monte and Tia Monte Smart are really one hotel. Smart is the newer section, though it doesn't have balconies. It's still a very nice place to stay, with beautiful, spacious rooms finished in wood that give them a warm atmosphere.

We held a conference here and the rooms were nice, the price was good, the food tasty, and the staff easy to work with. But the week before our event, after we'd brought 80 people, they told us the conference space we'd booked wasn't available. That was really inconvenient and unprofessional. Our crew adapted, meeting in the dining room during the day and outside at night. We would come back.

The hotel is only 800 meters from the toll plaza for the Kaunertal Glacier Road, which is a beautiful place. There are lots of easy hiking trails that are suitable for kids, and the hotel arranges activities such as horse riding for kids and group hikes. We really enjoyed our stay. The location, clean and cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food make it great value for money. I'd give it 5 stars.
