Cityhotel Ratheiser Klagenfurt

The hotel is packed with Sissy (Elisabeth) and Ferenc Jozef memories, along with Klimt relics. There’s something interesting in every corner, from the tables and walls to the display cases. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and clean, and it was quiet in the evenings, though a little cool in mid-December. Breakfast is a buffet with cold meats, eggs, cheese, some vegetables, muesli, bread, sweet cakes, milk, orange juice, and more. The noble lady who owns the hotel prepares the morning coffee for everyone, which felt like a real honour. The staff were lovely and the hospitality was excellent.

There’s a filled fridge by reception if you fancy a drink at night, and the service is friendly. The moment you walk in, it feels like stepping into a time capsule. The rooms are classic and comfortable, while the hallways have intriguing old-fashioned ornaments. I really liked this little gem.

The breakfast was adequate, the bathroom looked almost new, and the beds were good, though short. Getting into the bathroom was awkward, and its floor sloped a little. The decor seems untouched since the 50s or 60s, and the corridors feel like an antiques store. Not bad, just weird.

The room had poor air circulation, and the bathroom had neither a window nor forced ventilation. There were also too many carpets in the room. Breakfast was nowhere near what I expected from the descriptions I’d read in other comments. There’s no useful parking: the blue-striped spaces outside require payment every three hours to avoid a fine from traffic officers. If you’re travelling by car, I’d definitely avoid this place.
