Haus Dönz

The room was clean and cozy, the owner was really pleasant and nice, and breakfast was excellent, especially the pancakes :)

Mrs. Döns makes an excellent breakfast and brings out a little treat each morning, like pancakes. The gondola for the Sonnenkopf ski area is just a five-minute walk away. It’s a small guesthouse in the Klostertal valley, with a warm, welcoming feel and everything kept very clean and well maintained. If you like a family-run place and don’t need loads of luxury on a ski trip, it’s a great fit. Book well ahead, though.

I wouldn’t recommend Haus Dönz. They confirm a room is available when you ask about booking, but after you confirm, you hear nothing. One time the room went to someone else, and another time the booking was cancelled at the last minute. At the very least, they should tell people about a cancellation instead of leaving them without a reply.

We rented the holiday apartment last winter, and it never really got warm. It’s in the basement and seems to rely on solar thermal panels for heat, but the heating was poor. We were told to keep doors and windows shut so it wouldn’t get too cold, though you should still be able to air a place out now and then. Apparently nobody had complained before. After getting completely soaked in the rain on our last ski day, our anoraks and ski pants wouldn’t have been dry by the next day if we’d gone skiing again. The radiators were only lukewarm, so our clothes just wouldn’t dry. Oddly, when we went upstairs to pay, the apartment felt overheated. The landlady, dressed lightly in just a T-shirt, sent us off very kindly.
