Hotel Acerina

The staff were very friendly, the hotel was clean and tidy, and the food was good. What let the stay down was the final bill. Water served in jugs rather than bottles cost about €3.60 per serving. For our group of 8, that came to around €80 over 5 days. The sofa bed was also charged at the same rate as a regular bed. That cost wasn’t clearly explained in advance, and it feels unacceptable.

The rooms don’t feel worth what they cost, especially when there are nicer places at the same price with much friendlier people. The sauna smells really bad, and the hotel has an unpleasant atmosphere. Staff come across as rude and unfriendly, and they don’t even smile. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dinner was a mess both nights. We arrived at 7:20, within the suggested 7-8 window, and found the buffet empty. When I asked about more food, I was told they hadn’t expected so much food waste because many Americans, Australians and South Africans were staying. The next evening, at 7:10, a man told me to hurry before the food ran out. At breakfast, my scrambled egg was just one egg beside a bread roll four times its size. Ridiculous. The room was cold and unwelcoming, with no shower gel, shampoo or lotion. The shower leaked so badly that water covered the bathroom floor, and the Wi-Fi barely worked. Check-in was just as unpleasant: the woman was so rude and arrogant that it felt like she thought she was doing us a favor, even though we were paying 650 euros a night. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. The family was unfriendly, unwelcoming, rude and arrogant. It was the worst start to 2023, and I would not recommend it to anyone. Stay away. There are much nicer places for far less.

The hosts, Mr & Mrs Wolf, were wonderful, and I’d happily stay here again. Dinner was included, which turned out to be handy after a full day skiing: no need to put all the winter layers back on and head out. The meal was good value, with a fresh salad and starter buffet, soup, three mains to choose from, dessert and a cheese board. Breakfast was generous too, including freshly cut fruit. We stayed three nights for skiing. You can put your skis on outside and ski down to the Schlossköfpe lift. The hotel is close to the main road but still very central. Our room was comfortable and a good size, with a balcony and lots of storage, even in the bathroom. I especially loved the huge, well-lit mirror, about 1.5m x .5m, with lighting all around it. Getting ready was easy, which is something even new hotels often get wrong. 10/10.
