The location is handy, with the bus stop and cross-country ski track only 100 meters away. But the stay itself was very disappointing. The common room was below 19°C for the first two days, with worn benches, and the kitchen was tiny and frankly filthy. The old mattresses were ripped, and the showers were cold on day one with nowhere to put anything. The rooms, showers, common room and kitchen all deserve zero stars. Even after the final cleaning, the place felt neglected and unclean. I was there as part of a larger group, and I hope I never have to stay at the Böckenhof again.

The natural surroundings are the best part. There’s a stream that’s great for playing in and a good range of hiking trails. There was a soccer field, plus a ping-pong table and a foosball table in the basement, though the foosball costs extra. The volleyball court that had been promised wasn’t there. The house isn’t in great shape, but it’s adequate for sleeping, and the price for what you get is acceptable. It could work well for someone who loves nature and wants affordable accommodation. If you care about having a nice, clean place to relax, I’d look elsewhere.

We paid a €500 deposit in February, then got a cancellation notice on August 2nd. The money still hasn’t been returned. When we went to the site, we were told quite rudely that the refund was being processed and that these things take time.
