Sommerhaus Linz

My room was clean, nice, and surprisingly quiet, and breakfast was a decent buffet. I stopped over briefly near the university area and found the staff at the 24-hour reception very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed staying here.

The breakfast really impressed me, especially the range of healthy alternatives. I have insulin resistance and lactose intolerance, and was pleasantly surprised to find juice with sweeteners, vegan spreads, and even gluten-free bread. Praise to the restaurant manager for that. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the receptionists were nice and attentive to guests arriving. The cleaning staff were in a good mood and brightened my day. My only real complaints were that the Wi-Fi didn’t work and the room was a bit cold. I was happy with the hotel overall and would still recommend it.

I had the worst experience so far. Cleaning was so inconsistent that you could go a month without your room being cleaned, and management was terrible. Even after two years of staying, meeting all the requirements, and paying automatically each month, you could suddenly lose your “booked” place and be told, “oh sorry we have booked already and your 2 years staying doesn’t mean anything”. As a foreigner, I especially wouldn’t recommend this place to you.

The restaurant downstairs is clean, cheap, and tasty, and the location close to the university campus and tram line was good. Those are the reasons it gets two stars from me. The place also operates as a student dorm, so there’s foot traffic at all hours. Rooms feel dated and smelled strange on the first day, and the cleaning crew barged in early in the morning. Reception staff seemed distant or indifferent and made me feel unwelcome. Management couldn’t resolve problems without checking with the corporate office, so if something was wrong with your room, you were stuck with it.
