Wellness Chalet

The chalet itself is nice and well equipped, and the complex is lovely, but the signs telling guests what they’re not allowed to do are everywhere. The owners seem keen to enforce every rule, while guests get blamed whenever something goes wrong. Reading the host’s replies to negative reviews, I mostly see excuses. They could learn a lot about customer relations from an internship at Amazon, and handle feedback in a more positive way. I mean that as constructive criticism, not an insult. The area is beautiful, and I stayed in one of the chalets in March with a group of girls. We’d been looking forward to a relaxing weekend. What bothered me most was the host’s greed: bed linen costs extra, and even after paying nearly €2000 for two nights, we were challenged over a pack of toilet paper worth at most €6. We also didn’t get our deposit back because the hot tub water had to be changed, supposedly because we’d contaminated it in one use. On the second day, we couldn’t use the tub at all since the water wouldn’t heat above 30°C. The sauna, on the other hand, worked perfectly, and we enjoyed warming up and relaxing there. The houses have a lot of potential, but the hosts and their business model have plenty to work on if they don’t want to lose more customers. Reviews offer advice and feedback for free. They should accept it and appreciate that people take the time to help.

Johan was friendly and consistently transparent. We were there for an alumni reunion weekend, and the accommodation was fantastic: spotless throughout, fresh linens in the rooms, a well-maintained whirlpool, and a sauna in excellent condition. One small suggestion: switching on the refrigerator before guests arrive would save us a long wait to chill our beer ;) There was plenty to do nearby, including rafting and restaurants. We were also lucky that the famous Murkapulco festival happened to fall on our weekend. Thanks, Johan!

The surrounding area was the only thing that made the visit worthwhile. Inside, the entrance was filthy with footprints everywhere, and the refrigerator was sticky. Each toilet had just one partly used roll of toilet paper. There were no towels in the bathrooms, only one large and one small towel per person, which we had to keep carrying around. For the price, the place was run-down and completely unacceptable.

We were excited about spending two nights in one of the houses with our cousins, but the stay left us frustrated. There were 10 of us and we had only five rolls of toilet paper, which barely lasted half a day. The owner said it was only supplied for the first day. For more than €2000 for two nights, a few extra rolls and some towels would have been a reasonable gesture. The rooms were clean, and otherwise we had what we needed. The hot tub was already running when we arrived, so with the bubbling we couldn’t see what the water looked like and trusted it was fresh. After we checked out, someone inspected the place. We’d cleaned the pool as instructed, and yes, we showered first, but it’s only logical that 10 people in a small tub would leave the water dirtier. Our deposit was kept because the water was said to be contaminated and needed replacing. I don’t know what kind of water costs €300, maybe Evian, but we were shocked that they didn’t change it after 10 people had used the tub. That would also explain the rash and awful itching I got, as did others. We no longer believe the claim that the water was changed a week before we arrived. To whoever came after us, you’re welcome, at least you got fresh water!
