Alpenhotel Fernau

Breakfast was great and the hotel itself was good, but there’s room to improve. The hot tub didn’t work and was only open for a very short time. I was also charged 3.30 euro for each apple juice at the bar without being told, and only noticed it on the bill at checkout.

The hotel sits on the quieter edge of the village, though it’s an easy walk to the center and beyond. Our room was comfortable, the staff friendly, and both the food and service were faultless. Each evening we could choose from a selection of soup and main courses alongside the other set menu items. I’d happily stay longer, and would book again.

The pool and playground outdoors were great, but most of the stay was disappointing. The staff weren’t especially friendly. The rooms felt very dated, like they should’ve been renovated 10 years ago to justify the 4 stars. Some tiles were broken, and the soup holder was very dirty and discolored. The breakfast area didn’t seem clean enough, so eating there didn’t feel fresh. At half the price, it would’ve matched our expectations better.

The Stubai card made getting around easy, and the bus stop is right outside. Innsbruck is within reach too. The setting is beautiful, the food was lovely and suited all needs, and the staff were attentive and friendly. A week flew by, and didn’t feel like enough. Austria is such a clean, well-run country.
