Haus 66

Gerda & Johann were such kind, sweet, helpful hosts. We enjoyed the lovely coffee and cakes, thank you! The village is charming, and we'll definitely come back. The apartment felt cozy and bright, with comfortable beds and couch, a well-equipped kitchen, and a big bathroom. Salt, pepper, tea, coffee, and plenty of cups and plates were there. I loved little touches like the curtains, and seeing the mountains from every room was THE VIEW.

The whole downstairs is self-contained and has everything you'd want. It's near a bakery, with a short walk to shops, the lake, and the train and boat connections to Hallstatt if you need them. Fabulous stay, and top notch hosts!

We'd love to come back. Mrs. and Mr. Höll were welcoming and generous with local tips, and were always available when we needed something. Their comfortable apartment and the bikes they shared made the stay lovely, and our conversations helped us learn more about the village's history and stories. We were especially grateful that they brought the clothes we'd forgotten to the train stations for us.

We had a hard time leaving Obertraun. Gerda and Hans made us feel at home at Haus 66, and we spent a few late afternoons chatting with them on the patio and learning about Austria over Gerda's amazing poppy seed bread. The mountain backdrop is stunning, and the apartment had what we needed, including comfortable beds, a large bathroom, and kitchen facilities. It's handy to the village bakery, grocery store, restaurants, Lake Hallstatt, hiking trails, and the Obertraun train station. We travelled by train, used the local bus to Hallstatt for dinner one night, and went to Mt. Krippenstein for the SkyWalk and Ice Caves. The area's bike and walking trails are amazing, and we enjoyed biking from Bad Goisern one afternoon on the provided bikes. The next day we went to a spa in nearby Bad Ischl, a 25 minute train ride away. Gerda and Hans also gave us great tips for excursions and activities.
