The location is convenient, close to the center of Pörtschach, and the jetty by the lake is lovely. But for us, the railway behind the building and the main road out front were a real problem. We couldn’t sleep with the windows open. The apartment felt short on warmth and hospitality. The rules seemed to come first: keep the noise down, take out the trash, leave the place tidy despite the €50 cleaning fee, switch off the hallway light, lock the door, and check out by 10:00 AM at the latest. The furniture looked old and accumulated over the years, and the cheap rugs over the kitchen seating area gave the impression they were there to keep guests from making a mess. For what it costs, it didn’t feel like good value. It’s a shame, because the apartment is centrally located and the lake access is nice.

The owner was flexible and provided excellent service, making this a place where you can feel at home. The house sits slightly above the lake, so there are lovely views and a bit of privacy from the railway line that runs along the shore. It’s also only a few meters from the center of Pörtschach, and private access to beautiful Wörthersee is included.

The private lake access is the reason I’m giving this three stars instead of the two I think it deserves. The apartment has a youth hostel sort of feel, with posted house rules and a strict checkout deadline of 10:00 AM, not a minute later without a penalty. The furnishings are old and worn, mixed with discount-store pieces, and the decorations are much the same. The coffee machine has a note saying, “I get my capsules at Hofer,” which sums up the hospitality pretty well.
