Arthotel Blaue Gans

The only tricky part was getting around with small children and heavy bags. There are lots of stairs, and the lifts don’t take you straight to the room or ground floor, so we might look elsewhere for a longer stay. Otherwise, we had a lovely stay. The staff were really friendly, and when a taxi company caused us problems on arrival, they went out of their way to help. Breakfast was lovely, the room was very comfortable, and the location was excellent.

The location was amazing and the breakfast spread fantastic, but we were disappointed by how much we paid for a stay that didn’t feel especially special. We travelled all over Europe, and this was by far the most expensive hotel and gave us the most minimal experience. It was the only place that didn’t make us feel celebrated on our honeymoon, especially compared with other stays that cost far less. My husband had asked to purchase champagne for the room before we arrived, but it wasn’t there. The hotel arranged tour tickets and said there would be a pickup outside, then later told us we had to walk to the tour. It was about 15 minutes, not a bad walk, but the change was unexpected. They promote the “maxi bar” with free coffee and tea, but the coffee machine was broken on two of our three days. You pay for the location and breakfast, but if we came back, I’d choose another hotel.

The building is very old, which gives it plenty of charm. The location and service were great, our room was awesome, and breakfast was wonderful. It could be difficult if you have mobility issues.

There are lots of designer touches here, while the historic features have been preserved. It’s a great hotel in Salzburg’s old town, and it claims to be the oldest in town. Service was good and the restaurant was great. Our room, 418, was spacious, very comfortable, and well equipped, even with two umbrellas. My only small complaint is that all the pillows were very soft.
