JUFA Hotel Salzburg

The chess club that plays on Mondays made the trip memorable: they invited my kids to join in. There were plenty of restaurants along the short, walkable route to downtown, and the parking was feasible since we stayed in low season for two nights. Breakfast was good and included gluten-free bread, though I didn’t care for the machine coffee. I also thought it was unfair to charge extra for fried eggs on a €26 breakfast. Our room was small but fine and comfortable. We were a family of four, and there wasn’t a closet, but that worked for us for just two nights.

The manager, Mr Jay, is always ready to help and make sure guests are looked after. The rooms are clean and neat, the breakfast is lavish, and the surroundings are beautiful. Everything is nearby, though Salzburg itself is a small, lovely town.

Breakfast buffet was excellent, with lots of vegan choices, and the hotel gives you a free public transport card for local travel. There’s a bus stop close by, and the hotel also has a very good play area for kids. A nice experience here.

I wish I’d read further back through the reviews, since others had similar problems. Our stay was extremely disappointing. Room 228 had a lovely view of the snowy Alps, but it hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guests. We were moved to much smaller room 223, with nowhere to put our luggage and no view. Then we were held up over a door that wouldn’t lock. We had a city booking and missed it because we didn’t feel safe leaving our belongings in an unsecured room. We expect a safe place for ourselves and our things. Eventually we got a different room, but the iron I asked to have delivered never arrived. With only two days there, all the hotel problems cut into our time to explore. Check-in took forever and consumed a big part of the day, while the women at reception were extremely busy dealing with our complaint and complaints from other families. One family had booked, but the parents were housed in one part of the hotel and the children in another. Three rooms in two days and waiting around for problems to be fixed was not good enough, so I asked for a partial refund for the inconvenience. I haven’t heard from management at all. Not good enough!
