Genusshotel Vermala Montafon

The hotel is beautiful, and we were warmly welcomed on arrival. The food, though, was a real disappointment and didn’t live up to the reviews. It’s overpriced, and when I raised comments about the food, they brushed them aside. I’ve eaten at plenty of nearby restaurants, and there are much better options for a more reasonable price.

The downstairs bar is such a cosy spot in winter, with really good drinks, and the staff are attentive and kind. The owner is always warm and welcoming. We loved the detailed design of both the hotel and the rooms, and the food was just as impressive. The à la carte menu is probably the best you can find in Montafon. We'll definitely come back.

The spa and sauna are lovely, as long as you're comfortable being naked around other people, and they make it clear you're expected to be naked too. The bar is great, and don't miss the fondue. Food is good, and the morning minibus to the ski slopes is handy. There are downsides: the rooms are quite small, and although there's plenty of parking, it can get very icy. I still can't get over being charged THREE EUROS for a litre of tap water after spending several thousand euros on the stay. It feels really petty. The landlady is polite until something upsets her, and then the whole mood changes, which put a damper on our stay. I won't stay again, though someone willing to accommodate the owner's behaviour could still enjoy the place.

The mountain views make this a lovely place to eat. The dishes are delicious and beautifully presented, service is good, and the prices are reasonable. Book ahead if you want to avoid waiting.
