The good part was that the rooms were clean, and the beds and blankets were comfortable. Some people in our group found their beds uneven, though, and the pillows were chunky and odd, not comfortable. Bring your own pillow. Getting to the parking area was easy, there’s a warm room for ski gear, and the ski bus stops right outside. We got our rooms early without trouble, even after our group made lots of changes, and communication with Monika was good. Apart from Monika, people didn’t really speak good English. They spoke German, and the staff were Polish, Slovakian, and Czech. There was one day when dinner tasted good and the portions were enough. Food was the main problem. Breakfast had very few choices, and got worse each day. The first morning there were decent sausages, but only enough for each of us to have two, and they weren’t replenished. The next morning there were no sausages, but a new paper menu on the table listing breakfast items we could buy for extra money, including sausages. There were boiled eggs, never scrambled, and on our last day the decent ham choices were replaced with bologna. Dinner was soup, an A/B menu, and dessert, with orders placed the day before. Most days the portions were definitely small for a grown man, maybe enough for smaller, skinny people. We could serve ourselves more soup, but whenever we went back for seconds, staff just watched us. It felt like they didn’t want us to have a good dinner. The soups were mostly cream soups with croutons and no vegetables or protein. They weren’t bad, but tasted like cheap store-brand powder mixes. We went to Billa and saw ingredients that made us wonder about the food. The donuts served as dessert the previous day looked exactly like the discounted 1€ ones there, and we also found the ready-made boxed potato salad we’d had as a side. It wasn’t very good. I don’t know who makes the food, but it felt like college dorm cooking with whatever was discounted at the store. We weren’t satisfied, though at least we didn’t go to bed hungry. They clearly try to save money on food, which makes us not want to return. There was also a fridge full of things to buy, on top of the hotel price that included breakfast and dinner. The cleaning lady seemed to have instructions to unplug everything from the outlets, presumably to save money. Leave a power bank or smartwatch charging while you’re out and it’ll get unplugged. Of the four rooms we had, only one bathroom had a working outlet, and its hair dryer was wired in place, so we couldn’t take it to another room. I had a small room with an unpleasant smell from the bathroom, room 16. I’ve seen other reviews mention that too. I understand it’s fairly cheap for a reason, but this kind of experience leads to critical reviews. I think the place might get five star reviews more often if the host served better quality food, with a warm breakfast option every day, fewer cheap off-brand ready-made main dishes or sides, and perhaps more choices. Better yet, they could hire someone skilled at preparing good food at scale. Replacing the pillows might help too.
The Slovak staff were very nice and gave us lots of useful hiking and cycling tips. Everything else was fine, and dinner had two options to choose from, though breakfast had no options. We were told they had no regular room left, so we got a “special” one. It was extra small and had a terrible smell from the bathroom, though that may not be the case for everyone.
There’s parking and a ski bus stop right next to the pension. The rooms are large and have plenty of storage, but there’s no shared room, so we had to meet in the restaurant. It isn’t open to the public and has short opening hours. The food could have had more variety, and breakfast was the same each day. Still, it was OK for a week’s stay.
No free drinks, poor room service, and the included food is rubbish.
Fine, but nothing special.
