The buffet was generous, even with gluten-free baked goods, which made me really happy. The coffee was delicious too. Our room was clean and cozy, and the staff were friendly. It’s a lovely place in a nice location. One thing that could be improved: there wasn’t a power socket beside the beds in our room, where you’d normally expect one.

The room charge at checkout was still listed as a €5 tea fine. We explained the situation calmly to the woman at reception and said how embarrassing it had been. She checked with her boss, who insisted we pay €2.50. I’ve never experienced such unfriendly treatment. Apparently hot water is a luxury here. We were there from Friday to Sunday, arriving late Friday evening after letting them know, and that part was fine. On Saturday at breakfast, we took hot water to fill a bottle for our tour. A staff member came over and rudely said it wasn’t allowed, used a German word meaning we’d be punished, and immediately put a fine on our room. We were so taken aback that we barely responded. Even if it wasn’t allowed, I’d have expected to be told first. Later we saw other people fill their bottles without a problem, perhaps because nobody noticed them. We’d been considering dinner there, but after that interaction we decided to avoid the stress. The hotel was quite expensive for a “young people hotel,” with very small rooms and poor soundproofing, we could hear everything from the other rooms. The staff’s manners and the charge for water made it poor value. I’d recommend avoiding the hassle and staying elsewhere.

The food was the worst part of our school trip. Dinner wasn’t good either: the meat was salty and sometimes extremely chewy, while the vegetables could be raw and tasteless. Lunch was okay, especially the chicken and rice. Breakfast fell below standard, with everything either very oily, very salty, or both. The rooms were tiny, and even the toilet paper was already half used. The staff felt a bit odd, especially the chef, who seemed on edge.

The staff were amazing, every person we met was so kind. The dining room was lovely, with cute tables, chairs, and dishes, and labels for all the food. As Americans, we don’t always know what everything is, so that was a big help. Breakfast was typical European fare. Our room was a little small but still very nice, with a beautiful mountain view. The town is fairly quiet, too. This was one of the most affordable hotels nearby and absolutely worth it. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re in the area.
