Hotel Silberfux

We spent a week here in August 2024, our first stay at the hotel. We were a senior couple, a sporty young couple and a small family with a baby, spread across three different room categories. Hotel Silberfux, together with Haus Sonnengold, is run by the Empl family high above St. Veit im Pongau. Haus Sonnengold is recommended for families. The hotel is a real gem in the Austrian Alps, in the historic Pongau region of Salzburg province. The car park is a bit away from the hotel, which is why I deducted one point for the location. The setting is picturesque, and the welcome is warm. Modern comforts sit nicely alongside traditional charm, making it feel like a place to relax or head out for adventures. Our rooms were cozy and thoughtfully decorated, with modern amenities; most have breathtaking mountain views. The Empl family and staff went above and beyond to take care of guests. Breakfast was plentiful, with egg dishes made individually and served at the table. Dinner was delicious and made with fresh regional ingredients. There was a salad and starter buffet, two main courses to choose from and three desserts. The wine list focuses on Austria, is carefully selected, includes familiar and less familiar wines, and has commendable prices. You can unwind in the wellness area or by the heated outdoor pool, or explore trails and attractions around St. Veit, Schwarzach and St. Johann im Pongau. Guided hikes with the hosts' parents are offered twice a week. Hotel Silberfux is a lovely Alpine getaway that brings together comfort, hospitality and beautiful surroundings.

Parking is down the street from the hotel, which was fine when our hands were empty but made hauling luggage a chore. The room was great, and the hotel is family-run. I had breakfast and dinner included, and both the food and its presentation were so good I almost didn't want to disturb the picture-perfect plate. It didn't take me long to dig in, though. Honestly, I'm still trying to pick which meal I liked best.

It's a nice family hotel with delicious food. I'd recommend the apartment for anyone planning to come with children.

The service was excellent, the design really nice, and the wellness area and food were both great. Parking is limited and you have to walk a bit, which were the downsides. Recommended!
