We had dinner at the restaurant four times, but the last visit was awful. The two Wiener Schnitzels we ordered were spoiled and smelled bad. They seemed to try to cover it with a lot of salt and pepper. When I told the waiter, he said we could pick something else from the menu. A colleague who didn’t speak English well came to take our order, and we asked for two catfish fillets instead. To our surprise, only one fillet arrived with two plates. When we said we’d ordered two, we were told the kitchen was closed. This place is completely unacceptable.

We came for dinner twice and enjoyed the burger and pizzas. The dishes at the other tables looked good too, and the staff were nice and helpful. A pleasant place for a good meal.

The staff were lovely and the hospitality was great, but the food was only so-so, with an acceptable breakfast. The place also has the feel of a small-town guesthouse from the seventies, and the Wi-Fi felt just as dated. It didn’t work in our room as promised. We stayed three nights on a half-board plan. Despite the name Schiefling am See, this isn’t right by Lake Wörthersee. It’s a 35-minute walk down a steep slope to the lake, then farther to the paid beaches. The hostel does have a private beach at a small pond, which you can drive to. I wouldn’t stay again, though I can see why an older couple or a family with children might like it.

Delicious food, fantastic service, and a great sense of the local area. A place you really should stop at.

We ate at the restaurant but didn’t stay at the Gasthof. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
