Wintergarten

Service was really quick and the location is great. The food, though, wasn’t as good as what we’ve had elsewhere.

Decent, inexpensive food, and the staff are trying. Since it’s a hotel restaurant with lots of tables indoors and out, finding a seat shouldn’t be a problem. Nearly four stars, but not quite.

Wintergarten was open, bright, and easy to park at when I drove back into the city center. I’d first gone looking for another restaurant my GPS suggested, but it seemed not to exist. Once inside, I was greeted promptly and professionally, and they quickly brought me an English menu. I ordered a salad, which arrived within minutes with the most delicious dressing on top. My main course came just a few minutes later. Some people might prefer more time between courses, but I was happy to eat them together. To my surprise, this was the first place I’d found in Austria serving the famous weinersnitzel with chicken, similar to Italy’s chicken milanese. Nicolletta was an outstanding server, attentive and very good at her job. When I ordered a soft drink, she asked whether I wanted a large or small one. She was working alone, and since it was April in a sleepy ski resort town, there were no crowds, though a few other tables had guests. Other reviews had mentioned a man, so perhaps he was off that night. This was one of the best milanese entrees I’ve ever had. I thought the one I had in Italy last year was great, but tonight’s was even better. Thank you, Wintergarten. I may come back before my trip ends in a few days.

The food was good, and the portions were generous.
