We were left waiting about 15 minutes because nobody was at reception when we arrived. When we asked about it, the receptionist insisted someone is always there and said this was the first time it had happened to him. He said his colleague was “around the area,” but that person wasn't there. He meant the guy watering the plants outside. Later, the area where we left our bags for a tour was unattended. When I asked to borrow a knife, something I figured any hotel might be able to lend, he brought up my earlier complaint about the delay and said I was being rude. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. The front desk was unbelievably rude.

We left without eating because the whole interaction felt deeply offensive. When we asked for a table, the man asked what nationality we were instead of answering, then seemed uncertain before letting us in and telling us to find a table outside. He handed us a German-only menu even though he knew we spoke English. When we asked for an English one, he said he didn't have time to translate it, then did it anyway, rudely and without letting us speak. We asked for water and were told we'd have to pay for it. We went to Gasth of goldenes Schiff instead, where the experience was completely the opposite. Worst customer service I've ever had.

The separate toilet was a nice touch, and we really enjoyed the wine in the room's fridge, though it was very expensive. Our room was clean and had a terrace, and the beds were comfortable. The furniture felt a little dated, though. I also missed makeup remover wipes in the bathroom, and a shelf for a toiletry bag would've been handy. At €160 a night for a double room, I expected a few more amenities. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was delicious and nicely presented.
