Mitterbichlhof

We loved the breakfast each day and found the hostess kind and welcoming. It’s a great base for visiting Salzburg or Hallstatt. The guesthouse sits high on a hill with wonderful views of the valley, the mountains, and St Johann im Pongau. Our bedroom was clean and comfortable. I’d definitely recommend it.

We booked a family room and gave the children’s ages in advance, but our experience with the owners was very poor. Their attitude spoiled the good impression we had of the area, and I wouldn’t recommend this place for families. We’d agreed to arrive in the afternoon, shortly after 14:00, and were told the arrival time didn’t matter because the owner lived there. After a four-hour drive, we arrived around 15:00 with our two young children, but couldn’t reach anyone. The main door was locked, nobody answered the bell, and the owner was repeatedly unavailable. We eventually got the keys by chance, after other guests contacted the maid, who helped us. A second problem happened shortly after 8 p.m., when we returned from dinner. My wife was bathing our one- and three-year-old children when the owner repeatedly banged on the door and scolded us for being noisy, saying we should be quiet. She knew my wife was already in the shower with our one-year-old daughter. The children aren’t used to showers because we use a bathtub, and they were crying. The noisy episode lasted only a couple of minutes before they went to bed, but the owner showed no reason or understanding. Her behavior caused my wife and children completely unnecessary distress.

We loved every minute of our stay. The place and its location were both great!

The apartment was spotless, and we loved being on the farm. Such a warm, friendly place to stay.
