Noichl's Hotel Garni

The breakfast was really good, and the place is right beside the lift. A nice spot to stay.

The location worked perfectly for us, right by the ski lift and within walking distance of the town center. The snow groomer didn’t bother us much with the window shut, which makes sense given we were staying opposite the slope. The ski rental shop beneath our room was much louder. The parking is a little uphill beside the cable car’s valley station, though you can pull up to the hotel to load and unload. There’s also a reminder to check out by 10:00 AM, but when we went to Hotel Crystal, nobody was at reception. We rang and waited almost 15 minutes. The receptionist who eventually came was very friendly, but that was a poor end to the holiday. Our ground-floor room had a balcony. It wasn’t huge, but was quite adequate, and the room was cleaned thoroughly while we had breakfast, without disrupting our routine. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh food and eggs made to order. The breakfast staff were very friendly. The smaller high tables weren’t ideal, but we usually arrived late enough to get a regular table, which was much more comfortable. Drinks were available from a self-service fridge in the breakfast room. We thought the prices were too high for the setup, with a bottle of wine at €30. We’ve seen similar markups elsewhere, often two to three times retail depending on the drink, but not restaurant-level prices. The main frustrations were the check-in arrangements at the affiliated Hotel Crystal. Check-in was only at 3 p.m.; arriving earlier meant being told to come back, without anyone checking whether the room was ready. After a brief, rather cold greeting, we were asked how we’d pay. The full bill had to be paid before we got the room key, which made it feel as if payment mattered more than the guest. We also got only one key, and needed to leave a €50 deposit for a second. We travel a lot and hadn’t encountered that before. The reception ladies were friendly, though. We were very satisfied with the accommodation and would book again, but both check-in and check-out need work. If the whole transaction had been handled at Noichl Garni, I’d probably have given it five points.

The suite was really roomy, with a superbly equipped kitchen, and the rooms were bright, welcoming, clean, and tidy. We loved the fantastic spot beside the mountain railway. You couldn’t hear it at all, and the town center was only a five-minute walk away. The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was a delicious buffet. A wonderful hotel, and we’ll definitely book again next year.
