The rooms and spa were fine, but I came away feeling that the hotel was more interested in selling things than supporting health. Paid treatments are promoted for their health benefits, while alcohol is served and pushed in the restaurants and shops. They switch off the Wi-Fi at midnight in the name of health, yet hand out prosecco on arrival. That felt hypocritical. The daily newspaper, printed on new paper, also advertised the shops’ daily sales. Guests are nudged toward rocks, alcohol, “fashion,” overpriced local goods, and extra treatments. With little to do nearby, I felt stuck in a place that wanted my money more than my well-being. Food was another issue. The kitchen served Austrian dishes throughout our three days, with no other influences, and was very meat-focused. As a vegetarian, I got just one main option, mostly potatoes and pasta, with little protein. The nightly starter buffet did have lentils, beans, and other protein sources, which helped make up for the kitchen’s lack of vegetarian experience. The wine pairing and after-dinner liquor also seemed at odds with the hotel’s health message. The crowd was overwhelmingly white and made up of baby boomers. Maybe the sales focus, unhealthy food, and alcohol promotion appeal to them, but I expected more diversity and a stronger focus on health. We stayed three nights and four days. I wouldn’t return.

The thermal pool was packed, although the spa itself has a lot going for it: a good sauna area, plenty of choices, and a huge range of body and face massages and beauty packages. Still, the price feels hard to justify. The rooms are old-fashioned for this category, and we stayed several nights. Small basics were missing too, like a kettle, coffee in the room, and ladies’ amenities in the toilets. There were too many disappointing details to list them all, and it didn’t feel like a four-star standard. Dinner had a very appealing menu and the ingredients seemed high quality, but most dishes lacked flavor. The desserts were the exception, always impeccable. Full marks to the pastry chefs! 👌 The food at Retter is much better by comparison. We also felt they were trying to make money from every little thing. A bottle of water sits on the table as if it might be included, then shows up at a horrible price on the bill. In Austria, where tap water is among the best in the world, that seems unnecessary. They could raise the overnight rate and include water with dinner. We won’t be back, since there are much better places in Austria at this price.

The Ayurvedic care was a real highlight for me. A knowledgeable, compassionate doctor from India led the treatments, which felt restorative and uplifting. The blend of Eastern wisdom and skilled practice seemed exceptional, perhaps unmatched in Europe. The medical wellness and weight-loss programs were thoughtfully put together, combining medical expertise with natural healing. Even over a short stay, I felt more energetic, clear-headed, and light, with results that seemed both visible and lasting. It’s a rare experience that supports long-term well-being. At meals, Chef Josef and Sous-Chef Kristina served nourishing, delicious food, balanced around wellness goals. You can feel the care and understanding of healthy eating in each dish, and dining there was a pleasure for body and soul. Most of all, the warmth of the people made our days. My thanks to Barbara, Katharina, Brigitte, Viktoria, and Lena for their kindness and gentle attention. To the massage therapists, spa team, and all the dedicated staff whose names we don’t know, thank you for your professionalism, energy, and thoughtfulness. You create a feeling of harmony and genuine care. Hotel Larimar in Styria feels like a peaceful place for health and heartfelt hospitality, and from the moment we arrived we felt at home. Special thanks to Familie Johann Haberl & Daniela Lakosche for their personal presence and the attention they give every guest. Their wish to make people feel happy and cared for comes through clearly. Written with deep gratitude and love by Olga Ignatenko, Ukraine 🇺🇦. We’ll return to Hotel Larimar at the first opportunity.

The staff’s warmth stood out most: everyone was kind, smiling, and genuinely helpful, and it didn’t feel put on. The hotel has a really positive energy. We spent five incredible days here. It is quite expensive, but I think it earns the price. The kitchen was very good, the rooms lovely, and the spa area amazing.

We’ve stayed here once before, and the swimming area is still great. The hotel is nice, but finding trained staff seems to be a challenge, and it isn’t especially well set up for families with babies. Despite what the website says, there was no working baby phone that reached beyond 300 m. We lost a few hours trying to sort that out and couldn’t. On departure day we asked to keep the room for one extra hour and were told we’d have to pay the late checkout fee. I understand the principle, though hotels often try to be flexible when they can. Lunch was tricky too, since the baby table was really a kids’ table. A coffee machine in the room would also be welcome at this price. I’d recommend the hotel, but we could have used more help.
