Das Traunsee

Everything was exceptional. They clearly know what they’re doing. The one thing I’d change is the old-style toilet in our room, called a flachspüler. It made sense back when people needed to inspect their stool, but in a shared bathroom where someone else is also showering or bathing, the lingering smell is much worse than with a modern toilet, where the water helps keep it down.

The breakfast was a real treat, with fresh local ingredients served thoughtfully and a lake view that made every morning feel special. After time exploring the lake, the peaceful sauna was a lovely way to unwind, with the same stunning scenery. From the moment we arrived at Hotel Das Traunsee, the calm surroundings and warm Austrian hospitality made us feel welcome. The lake view was breathtaking, and waking to the blue water and sounds of nature felt dreamlike. The staff were caring and thoughtful, and our elegant, cozy room felt like home, with postcard views from every window. We came all the way from Brazil to explore Austria, and this was a wonderful way to experience it. I hope we can return in winter one day!

We’ve spent a good while visiting Austria’s lakes, but Das Traunsee still managed to exceed our expectations. From the first contact, everything was handled carefully. Our spacious room, #205, had gorgeous views, and there were plenty of outdoor areas with sun chairs. Breakfast on the terrace was a highlight, with excellent choices and a spectacular view. Dinner was delicious even outside their star restaurant. The wellness area had several saunas and steam rooms, generous places to rest, and the option of a refreshing dip in the lake. The service was warm and attentive throughout, and we were very happy with our stay. A true jewel in Austria. We’ll definitely return. Thank you.

The location and character are stunning, and after taking a boat around Lake Traunsee, we didn’t see another property that matched it. In person it’s even more beautiful. The food was excellent, the atmosphere relaxing, and the amenities clean and substantial. Even the gym is great. We’d go back, perhaps in cooler weather, and ask for a firmer bed. We still have fond memories of the deck and the setting. A few things to keep in mind: when it’s hot, sleeping can be very uncomfortable. The rooms aren’t set up for cross ventilation, there’s no AC, and the lake makes things humid. We slept very badly. Staff tried to help by bringing a dehumidifier, but it needs the windows shut, which made the room stuffier. Our beds were very soft and gave us awful back pain. I think they were foam, which also made us hotter. Maybe other units have firmer beds, but we sank into ours and our bodies bent. We paid for parking in advance, but someone else took our space. The front desk didn’t seem to care or act, even after we showed them a photo. We squeezed the car by the bushes and got significant scratches on the rental car. We never got our space back during the two days. Service felt perfunctory. Maybe it was a cultural difference. We visited five countries, and this place had the most “who cares” attitude toward us. For example, you could be the only person at the bar and still be ignored until you ask for a drink. It felt awkward, though the staff weren’t mean or rude. You really have to push to get what you need. It could be cultural.
