checkVIENNA – Mandlgasse

The apartment was comfortable and good value, with two bedrooms, a living and dining area, a kitchen, and a large balcony. But it wasn't very clean when we arrived, despite the €45 cleaning fee, and the house rules still required us to take out our own rubbish. That was especially awkward with the elevators out of order. Getting up to the third floor with kids and luggage was a challenge too. The top-floor hallways were blocked by large trolleys full of bedding, which seemed unsafe and could make an emergency evacuation difficult or create a fire hazard.

I've stayed with CheckVienna before, but this time I left dissatisfied, which is unusual for me since I try to be neutral. With over 15 years in hospitality, I found several things inappropriate. The flat was extremely dated and needs repairs or replacements. There were six chairs on the balcony, but every one was broken and unsafe to sit on. I hope I can stay with you again in future. Your properties have a lot of potential, with some investment here and there.

The apartment was very clean and worked well as a base for exploring Vienna. Schonbrun Palace is about a 20-minute walk away, and there are grocery shops, a Spar supermarket, and plenty of restaurants nearby, mostly kebab places. The metro is close and gets you to the city center in just a few minutes, the best way to get around Vienna. It's a spacious apartment spread over two floors, on the building's third floor, with a fast elevator. The courtyard parking is tight and fits six cars. Check-in is contactless. Downstairs there's a king-size bed, a shower bathroom, a separate toilet, and a laundry room. Wooden stairs lead up to a fully equipped kitchen with a capsule coffee machine, dishwasher, microwave, and more. There's also a comfortable sofa bed, coffee table, dining table for four, and a large terrace looking onto the courtyard. The views are average, and planes fly overhead constantly. Some furniture could do with an update, the knives need sharpening, and the terrace could be more secure. I recommend the place.
