We loved unwinding with a drink in the cosy bar each evening, and our room was lovely. The hotel is handy for public transport, so getting around was easy. From check-in through to leaving, the staff were friendly and attentive. The shower gel hadn’t been refilled and was nearly empty, but I’d brought my own, so it was only a small snag. My boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay last week and would happily come back.

Carina and the women on staff were wonderful. They gave us metro tips and even brought water and peanuts with our drinks for us to take upstairs. The men we dealt with were a different story, often rude when spoken to, especially if we asked for something. There was eye-rolling and dismissive hand gestures. We liked the hotel and its location, with public transport right at the door. The rooms were clean and well maintained, though we sometimes asked for more soap and never got any. Bed-making was inconsistent, and on some days the towel replacement left us with one large towel and several hand towels. The reception bar is cute and serves coffee and drinks all day. It was a nice spot to sit, chat and play cards.

I can’t recommend this hotel after what happened to us. Our booking had been cancelled, but nobody told us, and there was no record of any notice. We only found out at check-in. They put us in another hotel, which we wouldn’t have chosen, even though Hotel Donauwalzer still had availability. They may say they arranged alternative accommodation, but I’ve never had an experience like this and hope other visitors don’t go through the same thing.

Our themed room was lovely, comfortable and kept spotless, and the breakfast is worth paying for. There was a good range of things for a full breakfast, so I’d recommend adding it. The whole stay at Boutique Hotel Donauwalzer felt perfect, from the front desk to the room being ready and clean. Santiago and Rafaella made the experience especially memorable.
