Hotel Pension Mariahilf

A very pleasant stay. It's a lovely, classic guesthouse in a quiet spot right by the metro, just two stops from Westbahnhof. The host or manager was excellent.

The staff were very nice and flexible when we needed to arrive a day earlier than planned. The location is excellent, close to large shopping centres and museums. We were given a very old three-room apartment that wasn't well maintained or clean, and there were leftovers in the kitchen. It definitely needs improvement in cleaning.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room had a cosy, comfortable feel despite being a bit outdated. The location worked perfectly for our one-night stay. We arrived by train, and the main station was a nice half-hour walk away; the museum district, where we had a programme, was only 10 minutes on foot. The only annoyance was the heating. The radiators were turned off, so I had to open the valves. It was -2 outside and we badly needed them.

We had a great location, close to shops and the historic city centre, but the rooms looked very outdated. One of the rooms we stayed in had bugs. When we raised it with the owner, he gave us bug spray and told us to spray them ourselves, and said we had brought the bedbugs in. The place is supposed to be non-smoking, yet my room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke when we arrived. One towel had a bunch of hair on it and was still dirty. Breakfast worked differently depending on the day. On Sundays it was served in the pension lobby. Other days, we placed an order at reception and got a card to take to the cafe across the street. The breakfast there tasted great.
