Hostel Ruthensteiner

The staff were so kind and welcoming, and everything felt clean and organized. At 8 PM there’s a dinner for 5€, which is a nice chance for travelers to get together. The hostel has thoughtful little touches and useful information around, plus free luggage storage after checkout. You don’t need a separate locker since the room key locks the storage box in the room. Sleep was harder. People sometimes came back drunk and shouted in the street, and even though the windows block some noise, the yelling still came through and woke me. The hallways were loud too, so closing the hallway doors at night might help. The yellow curtains let in enough light to wake you around 6 AM, so blackout curtains would be better. The bed was too soft and sagged in the middle when I lay down. I found putting a towel under my hip area made it more comfortable.

The hostel feels cozy, cute, and made for meeting people. There are lots of chances to socialize, and the staff were especially lovely, friendly, and welcoming. I stayed over Christmas and they gave us a small gift, which was a thoughtful surprise. Nearby food places and coffee shops make the area pleasant and convenient, though it’s a bit far from Vienna’s main downtown sights. Noise at night was the main downside for me. Quiet hours weren’t really enforced, and I could hear people moving through the halls, talking and laughing loudly, as well as people chatting outside late into the night. It was all easy to hear when I was trying to sleep. It’s a lovely, social place with wonderful staff, but light sleepers might want earplugs or to keep the noise in mind before booking.

I really liked having some privacy while still being able to meet people. It isn’t a wild party hostel, and they respect quiet hours, but they also organize social events and activities so guests can get to know one another. The staff are all super friendly and make you feel welcome. There’s a clean kitchen, breakfast, laundry, and a coffee machine, so you have what you need. This is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at, and I’d absolutely recommend it.

The room and bathroom were hotel quality, and the hostel itself was lovely. People were nice, and there’s always inexpensive food, sometimes even free. It gets lively in the evenings, which is great if you’re very sociable, but it was a bit much for me. The location was the real drawback: at least a 20-minute walk to a nice café and a good half hour to the center. There’s a tram, but it’s only a little faster. It’s a good deal, though not ideal if you want to walk around Vienna’s nicer areas. It is right next to this gorgeous thing!
