Hotel Wenger Alpenhof

Right in the city center and just below the cable car, the hotel makes a great base for hiking or winter sports. I can highly recommend it.

I didn't stay at the hotel, just ate lunch at the restaurant. The first two times I went, both the service and the food were excellent. The salad and chicken were fresh and tasty. After the server changed, the service did too. I asked for Salzburger schnitzel filled with mushrooms and onions, checking in case there was parsley in it. The waiter came back with cordon blue, saying they'd made that instead, without asking if I wanted it. I had to refuse and leave. I didn't want to order anything else because I was worried about what might be in my food. He kept insisting that swapping the mushrooms and onions for blue cheese was the same thing. It really isn't. If you can't make what I asked for, tell me and let me choose something else. Don't decide for me. I had to politely explain that vegetables and cheese aren't the same to me. I felt ridiculous having to argue about this in a restaurant.

The hotel has a nice game room for little ones, and the spa is really comfortable. It's a cozy place in a quiet, family-friendly area, and the staff are very friendly. The food is delicious, especially the dinners. The gondola right in front isn't useful, but there's a free shuttle bus that goes to the other area and picks you up outside the hotel. The big ski station is just a few minutes away. The slopes may not be the largest, but the altitude is good and there are options to enjoy, especially for kids who are learning.

We spent eight days here in October and never got bored. The fall colors in Austria were beautiful, and the hotel's central location made it easy to explore beyond Salzburg state. It's easy to reach, the staff are friendly, and there's a multi-cuisine restaurant. One of the best holidays we've ever had, definitely recommend it!
