Mariahilf Citycenter Hotel

The location was decent, with bus, tram, and metro access, though the surrounding area felt a little rough. The room was serviceable for the price and looked like the photos, but this is a barebones place in an old building. Some paneling was missing, parts of the walls had been patched poorly with wallpaper, and the vintage furniture wasn't always in the best condition. The walls were thin enough that conversations in the hall carried through. If you want things like tea, coffee, or a mini fridge, you may want to spend a bit more somewhere else. After reading the negative reviews, especially the bedbug claims, we were worried about the room and service. We checked for ourselves and found nothing concerning apart from a dried cigarette under the mattress. I'm sure a thorough search at any hotel could turn up something like that. The front desk staff were kind, and we had no problems to deal with. We were pleasantly surprised, and it wasn't the horror show some reviews suggested, though the place badly needs some care and nothing was above and beyond. We would have liked to give them a higher score to offset some poor ratings. For a couple in our early twenties on a weekend away, it was decent, if not especially romantic.

I thought the hotel would be closer to the actual city center, so the different neighborhood and lack of much to do nearby left me a little disappointed. Still, the hotel itself was very nice, and the staff were outstanding. I do recommend it.

The room was fine for two young guys traveling around Europe, nothing fancy, just okay for sleeping. The bathroom was awful: the shower tray was so shallow that water flooded the floor. The location was okay too, though a bit noisy. Having to wait until 3 p.m. to check in was frustrating. We had a lot of backpacks and there was a two-hour lunch break, so we couldn't check in or leave our bags safely in a locker. That's far too long a break for a hotel.

It's a quiet, calm budget hotel near the metro, tram, and bus, with friendly staff. Unfortunately, the bathroom in my first room wasn't clean. I told the staff, and they gave me another room.
