Pension Hammrich

I had the same experience as the man who asked about a room. The reply came so quickly that it was clear they had no rooms available, but there’s no way to check how promptly they actually responded. It felt like pure disinterest. That’s no way to treat guests. I can’t recommend this place.

The rooms are spotless and well kept, but there’s a lot that made this a terrible stay for me. A man who seems to have lived at the hotel for a long time regularly insults guests when he’s drunk. He shoved his middle finger close to my face, about 3 cm from my nose. The next-door neighbor walks around the guesthouse courtyard in a bathrobe, smoking and looking permanently grumpy, so I wouldn’t bring children here. They use so much chemical cleaner that the smell is still hanging around three days later. That’s typical of Slovak hosts, but it’s not suitable for anyone concerned about their health. When I arrived, the owner complained about having to pay booking.com a €4 fee per night. I usually book business hotels and guesthouses through booking.com, but apparently that isn’t welcome here. After my business stay, I extended as a private tourist. The owner said, while being discreet about it, that she wasn’t allowed to host tourists during the COVID-19 lockdown. She also said it didn’t matter to her, since nobody there observed social distancing or wore masks anyway. From then on, despite asking, I received no invoices apart from one hotel tax invoice, except for a forged invoice after I was thrown out following a confrontation, which I describe below. The room was quoted at €25. The following day, the owner asked for another €1.50, apparently as hotel tax. She stopped issuing bills and required payment in advance for each night. I started giving her €27 a day, including tips, to keep things simple. She repeatedly refused my request to pay by card, although card payment is offered on booking.com, and gave various excuses. It’s clearly not a place for anyone who needs invoices for their accounts. After eight days of paying on time, I came back one evening after a sporty day, tired, and had forgotten that I’d stopped at the ATM beforehand. At Pension Hammrich, the owner intercepted me in a stern tone and said I had to pay cash in advance for the next night. She said she knew exactly what these people were like and didn’t have legal insurance to collect unpaid bills. I paid another €27 with the cash I still had, though I usually pay by card. So this is apparently a place for regular guests who want to be downgraded and threatened afterward. When I got to my room, I saw that someone had been in while I was out. The bed had been freshly made, and some belongings were no longer where I’d left them. There’s no safe in the room, so it’s not a good choice if you care about keeping your valuables secure. The next day things got even more outrageous: I handed the owner €30, and, as I read in the photos, only €2 was left.

Mrs. Hammrich is attentive and treats guests with courtesy and respect. The rooms are very clean, and I felt comfortable there. I’d recommend her to anyone. 😃

I never got to stay there. I called to ask whether a room might be available for one night, and was told I’d have to wait at least six days for an answer. That’s what I call entrepreneurial spirit.
