I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world and never had anything like this happen. I checked out at 12 o’clock instead of 10 o’clock, two hours late, and the hotel took the full 500 euros of my insurance money. They charge 150 euros per hour, which means they should have taken only 300 euros, but they kept all 500. I feel that was unjust and amounted to fraud and deception. It doesn’t fit the hotel’s reputation, unfortunately, and I don’t know whether management is aware of it.

We booked an apartment through the chain’s website just two days earlier. After driving for hours, we followed the booking confirmation instructions for collecting the keys, only to find the place we were sent to closed. None of the phone numbers worked. Calls either went straight to voicemail or weren’t answered. The apartment building was closed too, and nobody responded to the emergency mobile number. We eventually called another nearby resort from the chain and found out the building had been closed for a month. Even so, the website had let us book it. That’s unacceptable. Booking should have been disabled while the property was closed. I don’t recommend booking with this chain.

The experience was nice overall, especially with a ski locker at the AreitXpress, about a 600 meter walk away. We booked appartment top 3 for five people, and the apartment was fine for that number, but not for eight. The available space and equipment, including pans, plates, cutlery, dishwasher, cooker, small table, and chairs, would be lacking for eight people. The complex was noisy, with chairs scraping upstairs and people walking downstairs in ski shoes. There’s also a train running about 10 meters from appartment top 3, from 06:00 until about 21:00. There was one parking garage space for eight people, and the other car could go in front of the hotel only if there was room. The TV was odd, with only German channels, unlike other areas or hotels that have more language options. The shower was nice but suddenly got very hot.

The apartment was good, though not amazing. We stayed in top 2 at Villa Park Suites. All the apartments are called ‘Top’, so that isn’t an internal luxury rating. It had the standard comforts you’d expect from a four-star apartment, including a dishwasher, free wifi, and indoor parking, but extras we’ve had at other four-star apartments, such as a washing machine and sauna, weren’t available. Some parts of the layout felt odd. One bedroom had four beds but there were two bathrooms, each with a shower and toilet. I’d have preferred two bedrooms with one bathroom each. The dishwasher blocked access to the cutlery drawer and bin when open, the bedroom cupboard was tucked away, and the toilet paper was in an awkward spot. There were about 180 TV channels, around 90% in German and only one Dutch channel, BVN. That seemed strange since all the guests I met were Dutch and the apartments are rented out by a large Dutch company.

I really liked staying at this hotel, but the way they handled things was annoying and too strict. They wanted a 100 euro deposit from every tenant, which I found unacceptable. They also use an old-fashioned list to count every glass, spoon, and other item. At checkout, I’d personally cleaned all the dishes and we left as usual. Then, to my surprise, they messaged us saying there was a 100 euro apartment cleaning penalty and 80 euro for cleaning 4 towels. That isn’t a professional way to treat customers. Two cleaners were there when we checked out, but nobody said a word about any issue. If you have a choice, avoid renting from them.
