Adelaide Inn

The Inn has a lovely mix of old-fashioned charm and modern amenities. The staff are warm and friendly, and we really liked the location. We had a great stay and will be back.

The dining room was magnificent, and the hotel was very clean. There’s no lift, so we had to carry our bags up the winding staircase. Reception is only open from 10 am to 7 pm, which doesn’t work well for tourists arriving late or heading out early.

I was miserable from the first night because my upstairs room was so noisy I couldn’t sleep. You could hear people in the hall, doors slamming, pipes in the walls and ceilings, toilets flushing, and guests coughing, talking and knocking. I ended up buying earplugs. The place is inconveniently unstaffed much of the time, so I couldn’t call to ask to move rooms. There are no phones in the rooms, and the staffed hours aren’t enough if you have a problem or a question. The TV had nothing on it and I couldn’t access any apps. I was left on hold for ten minutes when I called reception, then walked down with the call still on hold and found a girl at the desk doing nothing. It was a very disappointing stay. I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again.

We had no hot water on the first night, and reception had said they’d move us to another room, but only from 2 pm. We changed our travel plans so we could be back then. At 2, they told us they’d fixed the water system and a room change wasn’t needed. Why didn’t anyone call us? They hadn’t even cleaned our room because we hadn’t asked them to, but we thought that was covered when we were told we’d be moving rooms. The noise made things worse. The hotel is under a flight path, with planes flying over low and loudly every ten minutes. Guests were also partying in our corridor until 1 am, while others slammed doors hoping they’d “get the message.” The hotel said noisy guests were outside its control. There’s no reception after 8 pm, so there was no help. If you expect four-star service, good luck, and don’t stay here if you plan to sleep before 11 pm. We also paid an extra $10 a night for a reserved car park bay. Because we checked in late, they emailed check-in instructions and were supposedly going to text the bay details separately. I never got a text. Reception first said the spot had been cancelled for the first night and I’d get a refund. Days later, they said it had never been cancelled, that they had sent a text with the bay number, and they wouldn’t refund me because it was reserved that night. I never received a refund. Save yourself the head and heartache and stay somewhere else.
