The hosts were so friendly, and the on-site parking was handy. We stayed a week in late February in the big ocean-view room and fell in love with the place. It felt like home as soon as we walked in, with collectables and an older English-home feel. There’s a little kitchen, though we only used it for breakfast because so many good eateries are nearby. The huge modern bathroom was lovely, and the beach close by is great for exploring. It was a little cold for me as a senior, but the kids had a great time in the waves. A relaxed place to unwind, and so different from an Air B&B or a hotel.

The beachfront setting is great, right opposite the jetty, with a Thai restaurant and bar downstairs. Cafes and good restaurants are a short walk away, including Hawker Street Eats👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. The property has lovely deco-era fittings and furniture. Deb, the caretaker, was helpful, left useful notes around, and messaged after our first night to check that everything was okay. Nothing was too much trouble.

We loved our six-night Christmas stay at McCloud House with our toddler. Having meals on the terrace and watching the sunset was a real treat, and the location on beautiful Noarlunga Beach is perfect, with cafes all around. Our room was very comfortable and had so many thoughtful things: homemade biscuits, beach chairs, Netflix, wine, fresh milk, and everything we needed to feel at home. Plus, there’s the biggest claw-foot bath, with bubble bath. The period house has historical photos and information about the area to look through. Deb was wonderfully helpful and responsive, and so were the owners. It’s a lovely kind of old-style hospitality. We only wish we’d booked longer and hope to return soon.
