KiteSurf 1770 Beach House

I loved the house itself. It was wonderful and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. But my experience with the host was extremely disappointing. We’d agreed on a late checkout, and that was a significant reason I chose this accommodation. At the last minute, I was told it could no longer happen. The host offered to refund both nights even though I’d already stayed one. That might sound like fair compensation, but it also let the host cancel my Booking.com reservation, which meant I couldn’t leave a review there. The way he communicated was what troubled me most. In messages and in person as I was leaving, he repeatedly told me to “manage my feelings.” I was only trying to explain how the sudden change put me in a difficult position. Instead of trying to find a solution that worked for both of us, he judged my reactions, called me dramatic, and made an inappropriate comment about me being “so French and revolutionary.” I’ve been traveling for a year and have never been treated so disrespectfully by a host. It isn’t just my experience. Other reviews also mention his aggressive and disrespectful communication, including some of his responses. The house is a great place to stay, but I wouldn’t wish anyone to have to deal with an unexpected situation with the owner. He was quick to belittle me, dismiss my feelings and fail to acknowledge the problems he caused.

It’s easy to feel at home in this clean house, with its lovely atmosphere, great vibe and thoughtful details. The staff were very friendly too. The beach and shops are a short walk away. If you don’t have a car, you can rent a bike or e-scooter to get to 1770.

James and his team made this feel like a home away from home. I’ve traveled around Australia as a backpacker for more than three years, and this is probably the best place I’ve stayed. It’s spacious and cozy, with a very chill vibe and a huge living room and common area. The double bathroom is big, tidy and nicely decorated. There’s even a cupboard of cooking spices, and the proper kitchen has everything you need if you like to cook. They have chickens in the backyard that lay eggs now and then, which really made me feel at home, lol. I stayed for a week, loved it, and can’t wait to come back soon!

The location worked really well, a few minutes from the beach, set back a little from the main road, and just a five-minute walk from the Greyhound stop. I stayed two nights in a double room and haven’t slept in a comfier bed this whole trip. The house has a chilled-out feel and lots of shared space, and the kitchen was clean and fully equipped. The pantry was well stocked too, including fresh eggs from the chickens. James made booking easy and sent comprehensive arrival instructions. When I was leaving on the evening bus, he arranged a late checkout for a small cost, so I could keep using the facilities and wasn’t too grubby for the overnight ride. The house was super comfortable. I’d definitely recommend it and would stay again if I’m in Agnes Water ☺️
