The family room had a kitchen and laundry facilities, and it was spacious with a comfortable bed. Booking was fairly easy, and unlike some other places in town, the hotel answers the phone for booking questions. But our room wasn’t set up for three people, even though that’s what we booked online and confirmed by phone. Parking spaces were small too. The bathroom drain was faulty, and a foul smell spread through the apartment. It seemed strong enough to make using the bathroom unpleasant and limit how long we could stay in there. I asked reception for help, but on our second conversation I was told the manager was at the other property and nothing could be done. We couldn’t move rooms because the hotel was full. Blocking the holes I could find didn’t stop the smell, so I wondered if it was coming from the washing machine drain. In the morning, when asked if the stay was comfortable, I raised the issue. The new receptionist said casually that her colleague could have fixed it the night before. There was no apology, though she did wish us a safe journey. A mixed stay: comfortable bed and roomy apartment, but poor service when we needed help. I’ll stay on Dean Street next time and wouldn’t recommend the Quest.

The staff were very helpful, and service couldn’t be faulted. The gym downstairs had a treadmill, rower, two stationary bikes, and a bench with free weights, which was enough for me. The rooms were spotless and nicely presented, with powerful, quiet air conditioning and very dark curtains. Two supermarkets and lots of restaurants were an easy walk away.

Apartment 308A was clean, quiet, and had everything I needed. The cleaners were fantastic. The problem was the air conditioning: its temperature can’t be adjusted, and the apartment was so cold that I couldn’t sit comfortably in the main room. Because of that, I couldn’t stay there again.

There were tiny bugs on the sheets and bedside tables. I’m no expert, but I hoped they weren’t bed bugs. The food at 2640, the restaurant attached to the property, was fine. At the end of dinner I asked to charge it to my room, but nobody told me that would add 10% to the bill. At checkout, I asked about the extra charge and was told it was mentioned in the welcome booklet from check-in. Bryan was dismissive and not apologetic, saying the hotel wasn’t at fault. That’s not how guests should be treated when staying and eating there. A terrible experience. I’d steer clear and go to the Mantra instead.

The room was sparkling clean and the front desk staff were excellent. My only real issue was the TV: its Foxtel-only remote couldn’t change the input, so I couldn’t connect my laptop with an HDMI cable. Management responded to my feedback, and hopefully they aren’t locked in to Rupert and can fix this. I’d highly recommend the place if you don’t mind Foxtel.
