Craig’s Royal Hotel gave us a stay we'll always remember for our 30th Pearl Wedding Anniversary. Its history, grand architecture and antique furnishings made it a special setting for the occasion. Established in 1853, it's welcomed royalty, dignitaries and celebrated guests over the generations, and remains an icon of Ballarat. We were told well in advance by GRACE, MELODY and PAUL that the air-conditioning in the Royal Suite with Balcony wasn't working, and they kept us updated. We stayed in the Royal Suite without a balcony instead. The beautifully appointed attic room turned out to feel intimate and full of old-world charm, and we loved it. The hotel also included two days of breakfast and complimentary sparkling wine, with a personalised Pearl Anniversary greeting waiting in our room. That was a very thoughtful touch. ALEX welcomed us warmly when we arrived. At the bar, MEL kept topping up my water bottle with ice whenever we passed and gave us helpful recommendations for our time in Ballarat. TOM made our evenings special with lovely late-night drinks and genuine conversation. At the Atrium Restaurant, HEIDI and her colleague, whose name I unfortunately can't remember, were attentive and graceful. The food was beautifully presented, indulgent and memorable. What makes Craig’s Royal Hotel special to us is the people. We felt welcomed, known and cared for from the start. We'd happily return for future occasions and our regular antiquing trips to Ballarat, a tradition we hope to keep for years. We highly recommend it.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the complimentary chocolate biscuits at reception were delicious. In the room, the beds and clean linen were good, and I slept really well. The shower pressure was decent and the heated towel rack was a nice bathroom touch. It's a lovely heritage building, and our room was comfortable and clean.

Our chicken curry and salmon were both delicious, and the decor had lovely character. The place is beautiful inside. The room was a little noisy, though, and looking out at the rubbish bin wasn't quite the view we had in mind. Otherwise, everything was good.

We had a lovely meal at the restaurant and the service was excellent, though the orange cake was a little dry. There was plenty of after-hours parking outside, and the price was good. It's a magnificent building with well appointed rooms. Unfortunately, the air-conditioning didn't work during our two nights, which were the hottest of the year. A fan made it bearable, but the hallways had working air-conditioning, so that was unfortunate. We'll come back and hope it's fixed.

We booked three rooms for a family weekend a few months ago, and one of our girls was upgraded to the Chinese Honeymoon Suite. She still talks about it, and it brings us all a lot of joy. Our room was lovely too, although the bed became a source of loud family laughter. I'm five foot nothing, and watching me try to climb onto it was like scaling Mt Kosciuszko. For someone of average height, it would've been perfect. Not everything worked perfectly, as others have mentioned, but it didn't spoil our trip. We enjoyed staying in a historical building and taking in its old-world charm. It was a refreshing change from modern hotels that can feel short on personality. Each room was unique. If you want a one of a kind stay and don't mind things not being brand new, this is a great place.
