The bathroom drain had green build-up around it, and there was a photo of it. One room's heater also didn't work. We were told through Google Translate that it wasn't needed because of the outside temperature. The payment mix-up caused the most disruption. We showed bank records and an Expedia receipt confirming both rooms were paid in full, but were still told payment had been declined. The next night, while we were out, staff called and sent several messages asking for payment again. One said they would be “waiting for us to return,” so we left the rodeo to sort it out in person. The pub was closed when we got back. I spent about 45 minutes with Expedia trying to resolve something the hotel should have handled. At check-in, we were told there was only one booking under our name, even though Expedia had confirmed two rooms. Showing proof didn't help at first. It took around 20 minutes and a call to Expedia to find the second booking, and there was no real apology or explanation. Dinner was also disorganised: prices changed after we'd ordered, sausages first quoted at $5 each were entered as “eggs,” then priced at $8 each, and we had to chase drinks after 15 minutes. One message mentioned staff were “already in trouble” over my earlier factual complaint about the check-in delay. Guests shouldn't be drawn into internal staffing or management issues. We spent the stay repeatedly proving we'd paid and dealing with problems that should've been sorted internally. It was stressful, embarrassing, and felt unfair. I stay in motels for work more than 60 nights a year on average, and this was by far my worst experience. I wouldn't recommend Shamrock Hotel Balranald. The problems continued throughout the stay.
