Bargara Blue Resort

The location at Bargara Blue Resort is excellent for activities, with supermarkets and shops nearby, a lovely pool, and a fantastic beachfront view. I thoroughly enjoyed being there, but for the price of a 4 star accommodation I expected more. To me it felt closer to 3 stars, and the apartment wasn’t clean enough for a cleaner to sign off as ready. There were debris and hairs in most kitchen and bathroom cupboards and drawers, including the cutlery drawer, and some dishes were dirty when we arrived. The dishwasher didn’t work on any setting, and neither did the drier, which wouldn’t dry clothes. I found broken glass and food in the rug, a broken coaster, and dusty bathroom vanity tops. The floors hadn’t been cleaned properly, and the carpeted bedrooms hadn’t been vacuumed. There were piles of dust behind the beds, on the carpet, skirting boards and switches. The curtains were too small for the window frames, and there were multiple loose tiles. The bedroom mattresses squeaked badly and I could feel every spring. They need attention more than electric blinds or big TVs. Every door squeaked too, echoing through the apartment whenever I opened or closed one. With six people staying for four days, we had only three toilet rolls, and the room wasn’t serviced even once. The stay was let down by all this. Housekeeping and operations need to address the cleanliness and maintenance.

The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the place was a nice walk from the cafés and local park. The golf club is across the road, and there’s undercover parking, though the clearance is low and wouldn’t suit a Land Cruiser or large 4WD. Cars and motorbikes seem to enjoy roaring past, so bring ear plugs. I stayed three days. It was clean, but could use an update and a paint job. There’s a full kitchen and air conditioning, but fans are only in the bedrooms. I couldn’t connect to the WiFi with the password provided, and the bathroom toilet seat was loose. The walls need a good clean. The fan in the second bedroom was making such a racket I thought it might come off the ceiling.

We booked a two bedroom place but were upgraded to a beautiful, large three bedroom apartment, unit 12. It was thoughtfully equipped with games and even cereal in the cupboard. The ocean view and spa bath were lovely. Our only regret was not staying longer.

John was very accommodating when I arrived late in town. It was old school service, and really genuine. My Land Cruiser Ute wouldn’t fit underneath, but he was very helpful about it. Honestly, he couldn’t do enough for me. I’m the executive general manager of a group of companies and stay in a lot of hotels and motels, so this experience surprised me. I seldom take time to write a review, but this one stood out. One of my executive assistants accidentally booked me here instead of another place because they mixed up the name, but I was very pleased with the result. The rooms I saw were extremely spacious and well furnished. Highly recommend, and this will be one of our accommodations for work in the region.
