Sandcastles on the Beach Bargara

The unit was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and Christine was helpful and kept in touch well. We absolutely loved being able to take in the beach and surroundings from sunrise through to sunset. I wish I could give a few more stars, and I can’t wait to come back sometime.

We were so disappointed with this place for our family holiday. The rooms were old and run down, and weren’t cleaned properly. There was dust, dirt, and even a gross grape on the floor when we arrived. The furniture was awful and the couch was falling apart. When we raised our concerns, the owner’s response was terrible. At $175 a night, it wasn’t worth it. With our 3 month old baby, the poor room and customer service were especially frustrating, so we moved elsewhere. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The location is the one thing that earns this three stars. There’s a lot of potential here, but the apartment is dated, poorly maintained, and not worth what we paid. We were in unit 8, a two-bedroom apartment with ocean views. The floor had been mopped with bleach, but used coffee pods were still in the machine, the fans were rusty and dirty, the range hood was greasy, and the bathroom skylight was rotting. The toilet cistern was crumbling, the screen doors were rusted shut and couldn’t be locked, and only the glass slider could be secured. The shower fitting leaked and sprayed right in your face. The main bedroom mattress sagged into the middle, and needed replacing, not another piece of foam on top. Communication was poor too. My emails got no reply. Two days before check-in I called to update my card details, and was told everything was sorted, but the payment came out days later on the wrong card and caused banking issues for us. The apartment did serve its purpose, but it badly needs a refurb.

Unit 7 was dusty and run down, dated, and nothing like the advertised photos. The leather lounges were disintegrating and had blankets over them, there was no air conditioning in the bedrooms as advertised, and it certainly wasn’t worth $145 a night. In unit 1, the place was unhygienic, with animal hair, sand, dust, and dirt throughout. I had to clean the sheets, fridge, bathroom amenities, and floors myself. When I asked for a vacuum, I was told, ‘I don’t think we have one’. After I showed the agent pictures, all they said was, ‘I’ll let the cleaners know’. No compensation was offered. We’d booked both units for our family reunion, and the experience left everyone frustrated. We expected four-star units, and that’s not what we got.
