I paid $100 for a meal at Goldfields that wasn’t worth $20. The portions were so small it felt like a snack, not a main meal, and the food was too fancy for a country venue. The meat was raw, which won’t suit everyone, but we were told that’s how the chef does it. In town you can get a full plate with cooked meat for $30. It was a total waste of money. The inside and outside need more lighting. The sandstone stairs outside are a safety hazard without hand rails for people going up and down. Goldfields function centre’s food has gone downhill over the last 5 years. Five years ago, you got a full plate of edible food that was filling and delicious. I won’t recommend Goldfields function centre to anyone. I’m extremely disappointed with the direction it’s taken.

We went with my class on a one day excursion, not an overnight stay. Amanda was super helpful arranging it and answering my questions. On the day, our tour guide Brian was fabulous, keeping the whole class engaged and sharing lots of valuable information. The students got to take part in lots of hands on activities, including panning as an extra, which we all loved. The organisation and service were incredible. I highly recommend the site for a class learning about the Australian goldrush, and I’d definitely do it again.

My favorite part was eating damper, it tasted so good! I also liked pretending I was back in the 1850s, searching for gold and trying to get rich like people did then. I enjoy history, and there were lots of Australian historical things that interested me. It was my first camp for School and I had so much fun. The beds were alright, like a motel’s, the showers were good but sometimes the water could turn cold, which wasn’t bad. There was a tv and even a fridge. I want to come back again.

+ The staff were nice, and the activities were fairly interesting. The Teachers’ food was quite good. - The students’ bedrooms were dormitory like, and their food wasn’t very good. The showers took about 3 minutes to adjust. Our heater smelt like dead rats, so we couldn’t use it, and it was really cold.
