We spent the weekend at Holmhurst Guest House for a sporting event, and the accommodation worked perfectly for our group. We needed rooms for 13 adults and 15 teenagers, but couldn’t find anywhere in Bathurst. A week before the event, I called Robyn, who managed to fit us across 15 rooms. She spent a lot of time on the phone, texts, and emails with me the Saturday before, working out a mix of rooms for everyone’s needs. She was accessible and helpful throughout. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor room for team meetings and relaxing before and after games. The kitchen and lounge area worked well for setting up breakfast for the group, and we could use the spaces like our own home. The shared facilities could have been a downside, but the heritage building’s charm and all the different places to gather made sharing much less of an issue. I’d highly recommend Holmhurst Guest House for a short stay if you want versatile, affordable accommodation for a person or a group. Thanks again to the Holmhurst staff for their hospitality and for helping make our weekend a great experience.

The grounds and the building are lovely, and the location is good. It feels like the place could be much better with some care, especially since it seems to be for sale. Inside, though, our twin-share room had a prison-cell feel. The single beds were ugly, lumpy, noisy, and the most uncomfortable I’ve paid for. The carpet looked like cheap industrial nylon from an old suburban office, and I’m pretty sure the furniture dates back to when the building was an orphanage.

I’m writing this because I hope other people see it before booking. After four days at Holmhurst Guest house in Bathurst, I say I was robbed of $2000, and today’s experience has left me feeling hurt and taken advantage of. Losing the money is bad, but the whole thing has hurt even more. I’ve never left accommodation early before, and I don’t do that over something trivial. The place also made me physically ill. I wish I’d noticed earlier that other reviewers described similar experiences and didn’t get their money back or their property returned. I don’t know whether anyone will read this or care, but please let people know so it doesn’t happen to them. Don’t stay at Holmhurst Guest House in Bathurst, and don’t trust Robyn the owner. If you have to be there during busy race week, book through Airbnb or another reputable accommodation site rather than directly through her, and definitely don’t sign her contract. I also posted a longer review describing what happened and how customers are treated at Holmhurst Guest house. This isn’t good business, and life’s too short for it, don’t you think? Cheers, merry Christmas and happy New Year. Thank you.

The beds were really comfortable, and the place itself is gorgeous, with plenty of history. Robyn was friendly and helpful while we were there.

Robyn, the manager, was lovely and helpful, and it’s only a short walk to the centre of Bathurst. I stayed for one night in a basic room, but the bed was comfortable and the pillows decent. The upstairs balcony has amazing views. There’s a full kitchen guests can use, though there weren’t any tea or coffee facilities in the room. The building itself is beautiful.
