Salamanca Terraces

The on-site parking and location were the main positives. The studio was tiny, with very basic fittings that felt due for an upgrade. The blackout curtains didn’t reach the wall properly, and the single-glazed windows let in traffic noise and even pedestrians’ conversations, so sleeping was difficult. The bathroom was grubby. There were no cooking facilities or safe, and the fridge freezer was tiny and not cold enough to make ice when we arrived. Laundry was available in another building, but it was coin-operated rather than complimentary. We stayed two nights at the end of our time in Hobart because our room at Salamanca Suites wasn’t available. We’d loved our stay at the Suites, which lived up to its consistently good reviews, and expected similar standards here without checking carefully. Instead, this was the worst accommodation of our six weeks in Australia. At a similar price to the lovely rooms at the Suites, it was a big disappointment and very poor value. If Salamanca Suites is available, I’d stay there. If it’s booked out, I’d give the Terraces a miss.

The room was roomy, parking was good and check-in and checkout were easy. The best part is how quickly you can walk out the door and reach the main Salamanca dining and market area. I’d book again, though next time I’ll ask for a water-view room.

We slept well in comfortable beds, and the apartment was spacious and in a spectacular location. Booking by phone was friendly and easy, and the email check-in instructions were clear. Check-in at Lenna of Hobart was straightforward, and the reception team were especially warm and helpful. When we found only one hot chocolate among the tea and coffee supplies for four of us, reception quickly brought extra tea and hot chocolate. The apartment itself felt a bit underwhelming and not especially welcoming. There were beds for five, though only four of us stayed, but comfortable chairs by the TV for just three. A lamp would have helped the lounge. The kitchen laminate had chips on the benches and cupboards, the old carpet was pulled in places, and the bathroom is overdue for refurbishment, with discoloured grout and mould behind some shower-screen fittings. It suited us because we were out exploring the Salamanca markets. If you want to spend a winter day inside crafting or reading and enjoying the feel of Hobart, you might want another property in this group. Salamanca Terraces felt practical and a little sparse, rather than romantic or luxurious. You’re paying for the space and location more than comfort or atmosphere.
