For the price, it’s decent, as long as you expect a motel rather than a 4 or 5 star hotel. I was unsure because of the mixed reviews, but maybe some of that was miscommunication. Check-in was straightforward. The one-off entry code wouldn’t work after checkout, so there’s no security issue of the kind others mentioned. I wouldn’t mind coming back. It’s clean, with a neutral-smelling room, a good air conditioner and windows that open. The pillows were just the right height, towels and sheets were very clean, and the toilet and shower room were good. The floor was harder to judge under the black carpet, and the walls were okay. It seems to have been renovated in the past few years. Thin walls, but being beside the carpark meant there wasn’t much noise apart from the cafe lane next door. Don’t expect soundproofing. There’s a TV and Wi-Fi, but no hairdryer or spoon, and the water was barely warm. The room isn’t blacked out, and there’s no one at the hotel. It’s fine for a short or medium stay. There’s a clothing rack, but no sustainability features like refillable hand soap. The CBD location is great for walking around, and the town is well kept. I didn’t notice much antisocial behaviour beyond graffiti and the like. There’s no nearby bus stop, so you need to walk 2-3 streets, and the train is about 15 minutes away on foot. Cafe lane next door is a nice, warm spot and worth seeing. Wheelchair-friendly rooms are available, and it’s pram-friendly if you ask for the ground floor. Pricing is good and worth a stay. Overall, 7.5/10.

I booked a queen room but didn’t even stay the night. The bed was unmade, rubbish was still in the bin, the bathroom fan was on, the amenities were open, and towels were on the floor. It looked like someone had only just stepped out. Like several other reviewers, I was really concerned that my entry code hadn’t been changed since the previous guest. Even with a good location, I don’t recommend this place. It felt incredibly unsafe.

It’s conveniently located, with a clean, comfortable room and a very affordable overnight rate. The grand staircase is great, and getting the entry code was straightforward despite there being no reception or staff on site. The bathroom needs urgent maintenance: the towel rack, paper holder and lampshade were all broken, and there was mould around the shower edges. Forget the courtyard, it’s filthy, with birds emptying the rubbish bins. It could be a perfect place for a longer stay if it weren’t so neglected.

Right in the middle of the city, so the location was great. The room had good space and was clean enough. The bathroom amenities were fine, but the towel rail was missing. There was no milk in the fridge, maybe because it’s in the city itself, and I had to wash the cups before using them. The entrance and stairs weren’t very clean, though there was a nice chandelier on the stairs. We heard a couple arguing and cursing through the night, which wasn’t a pleasant feeling with family.

The location is fantastic, but the bed is the most uncomfortable one I’ve slept on in over 50 years. It’s probably as old as the bed. Such a shame I have to sleep there again tonight, so I’m sinking a few beers before bed and hoping that helps.
